2010 EASTSIDE SOX RULES AND EXPECTATIONS

In order for the team and all its members - players, parents, coaches - to complete the objectives of the program, the following rules have been established.

Player Expectations

I.   Practice

A. Attend all practices!

1.   Call coach if unable to attend or if you are going to be late!

a.   communicate with coaches regarding all situations - school work, family circumstances, etc.

B.   Cancellations

1.  Always assume that practice is on unless contacted by a coach or team representative.

C.   Dress Appropriately!

1.  Cleated Shoes and/or Tennis Shoes

2.          Socks

3.          Athletic Supporter/Cup

4.          Sweat Pants/Thermal Pants

5.          Long sleeve shirt/Thermal Shirt/Sweat Shirt

6.          Hat (Baseball Hat/Stocking Cap)

7.  Glove

8.          Helmet

9.          Bat (Optional)

10.  Bag for equipment

11.  No Jewelry (Watch/Necklace/Rings/Ear Rings)

D.   While at practice work to develop the characteristics and qualities as established in the Philosophy and Objectives statement.

1.  Work hard on fundamentals

2.      Be good listeners

3.             Be coachable

4.             Complete assignments fully

E.   Take care of the Equipment!

n. Games

A.  Attend all games!

1.  Call coach if unable to attend

2.             Always assume game is on unless notified by coach or team representative

B.   Dress appropriately!

1.  Cleated Shoes

2.  Indoor shoes for batting practice

3.   Gym Shorts or Baseball Shorts

4.   Game Pants / Thermal Pants

5.   Game Shirt / Thermal Shirt

6.   Under shirt

7.   Sweatshirt/Jacket

8.   Glove

9.   Hat (Game Hat / Stocking Cap)

10.     Helmet

C. Game Etiquette

1.       Once inside the fence all communication and attention should be directed toward your game responsibilities.

a.       Players should not converse with fans/parents/friends until you are dismissed by your coach!

2.             Gum and Sun Flower seeds are allowed

3.             Water, Gatorade, PowerAde, etc., are okay

a.              plastic bottles only!

4.             Stretch and warm up will take place at an assigned time

a.              be dressed and ready at that time!

5.             Always play catch, run, pepper games in outfield

6.             Always cheer for our team

a.              be players and not coaches

b.             always be positive with team members

7.             Always respect and be sportsmanlike to opponent and umpires!

8.             Take care of equipment

a.       Throwing equipment is not acceptable

9.             Use appropriate language

10.     Coaches will be only people to discuss situations with umpires!!!

11.     Play with class

III. Tobacco/Alcohol/Drugs

A. These have no place in baseball

V. Equipment Responsibilities

A. Equipment is for players and coaches to use

1.             both will help take care of equipment

2.             pick up equipment when assigned

3.             take good care of equipment

 

VII. Expectation Failure

PARENT EXPECTATIONS

I.         Remember coaches/umpires/league officials are VOLUNTEERS!

A.   Support your child (children)

A.   Attendance by parents is optional - you are always welcome

B.   Remain off practice field or practice area during practice unless asked to participate by coach

C.   Feel free to participate when asked (Moms too!)

D.   Provide positive reinforcement

IV.       Games

A.   Provide positive reinforcement

B.   Demonstrate good sportsmanship

C.   Remain off field unless asked to participate by coach

V.         Protocol for Concerns/Questions

A.   Do not be afraid to communicate with coach

B.   Call coach and discuss

C.   Ask coach for a moment to discuss situation in private

D.   Be respectful towards coach during discussion of concerns or issues

COACHES EXPECTATIONS

                    I.           Provide positive growing atmosphere for players

                  II.           Communicate with parents/players

                              III.                        Demonstrate same respect and sportsmanship as we demand of players and parents

                             IV.                        Take interest in each young person's personal well being

                                  V.                        Coaches must teach and not punish

                             VI.                        Coaches will provide discipline when necessary
